Of the 31 WWTPs, the BLG has the largest installed capacity of 85.4 MW, while the YCN has the smallest installed capacity of 1.2 MW. Four WWTPs, JNA, JGS, CDU, and XZG, have utilization hours less than 1000 h, and the conclusion is consistent with the solar energy resources distribution in Fig. 1.

Colacicco et al. proposed a solar PV design method for WWTPs to optimize the energy consumption of oxidation tanks in WWTPs . Campana et al. realized 100% renewable WWTPs by combining a PV system with wind turbines, multi-energy storage technologies, and reverse tertiary osmosis treatment to absorb the power production surpluses .
Can a WWTP be installed with a PV module?
Other parts of the WWTP, like the building roofs, can also be installed with PV modules, so the WWTP has the conditions for implementing a PV power generation system. Secondly, the WWTP is a significant energy consumer that needs a lot of electricity. Moreover, it operates continuously for almost 24 h, and the power load is stable.
